Jeanine Cohen

Jeanine Cohen (Belgium, °1951) describes her works as paintings, but actually they are wood assemblages that she paints at the back with loud colours. She plays with the properties of the canvas and the interface between 2D and 3D. In this way Cohen examines concepts such as space, time and movement. Her works are characterised by a rigid structure, but since the natural light has a strong impact on the colours, they display some romantic qualities as well.
